Building India's Premier One Loft Race from the Ground Up
In a sport deeply rooted in history and precision, pigeon racing has taken flight across the globe with One Loft Races (OLRs) capturing the imagination of fanciers worldwide. Yet, until recently, India lacked a premier OLR that could match the global stage. That’s where Viki, the founder of International Derby India, stepped in—blending passion, experience, and years of planning to create India’s most ambitious OLR setup.

📍 A Vision 5 Years in the Making
“The reason I started the OLR in India is because globally, One Loft Races are well-established. But not here in India. I spent nearly 4 to 5 years studying the international models before setting this up.” — Viki
Viki’s journey into the OLR world didn’t happen overnight. As a pigeon fancier for over 8 years, racing and breeding nearly 300 to 400 birds annually, he recognized the growing interest and potential in India. He saw an opportunity—not just to participate, but to lead the movement and put India on the global pigeon racing map.
🏠 The Loft: Where Champions Are Made
At the heart of the International Derby India is a state-of-the-art loft facility located in ECR, Uthandi, Chennai.
Size: 5,000 sq. ft / 120 meters
Capacity: 2,500 to 3,000 birds
Design: Built for optimal air flow, cleanliness, and top-tier training conditions
Function: Designed to house birds from all over India in a single, standardized racing environment
This massive loft provides a level playing field for all birds, ensuring that winners are decided by true skill and training—not environmental advantages.
💉 Health & Training Protocol
Handling thousands of pigeons from across the country requires not only infrastructure but also deep knowledge in avian care and disease prevention.
Here’s how Viki and his team maintain world-class standards:
PPMV1 Vaccination: Every bird is vaccinated against Pigeon Paramyxovirus as a baseline health protocol with 3 in 1 Vaccine Paramyxovirus type Herpesvirus 1 (PHV1) Adenovirus type 8(FAdV-8).
Bird Collection Window: Birds are accepted from March to June, typically between 60 to 120 days old—a critical age where they are mature enough to adapt and feed independently.
Pox Vaccination: Immediately upon arrival, each bird receives the Pox vaccine to boost immunity before they begin training.
“Because I’ve bred hundreds of birds each year myself, I understand flock behavior and disease management. This helps me ensure the safety and conditioning of every pigeon that arrives here.”
